fuckyeahmenfolk!

Probably blogging...

I'm planning on writing  a bit more...I've been pretty sick and tired lately, exhausted, but that's just a part of this life.  I'm about to go back to studies soon, but I'm sure I can maintain some interesting articles, links, essays etc...I'm looking at different types of content, such as playlists for your iTunes, just so that you can bounce off the walls when you need to.

I've been having a few delays getting a podcast up and running, but I'm looking it doing something soon, probably 30 minutes every so often, so I can maintain a dialogue about the ups and downs, experiences that are cool and not cool.  In Australia, we just had our national Queer conference called Queer Collaborations, so everyone just got a dose of gender theory and practice 101, but I'm not sure how that information is going to filter down to the masses, I'm going to try and access as much of that information as I can, and judge it, because I'm fucking entitled to.

Review: Trans at London Pride

Fun, impressive, exciting, inspiring – but Pride London still has a way to go if it wants to bring the transgender community back into the fold, writes Jane Fae.

Trans was most certainly there. Journalist and activist Roz Kaveney flew the flag for the community – both those who with us now, and those who have passed on since the heady early days of Pride – by walking with the contingent at the front of the procession. Sadly, a minor organisational cock-up meant she did not speak in Trafalgar Square later in the day.

Humans right? An anagram for trans-kind

This is essay is about being among humans.  What is human or humane?  Is the treatment of transgendered individuals humane?  Are we acting in the human spirit when we give them limited choices, from which there is almost certainly no ideal selection?  What is being achieved by continuing negative social attitudes when the life of any person who identifies as trans or as a member of the opposite sex is already difficult enough.  Do you hope to discourage them from getting potentially life saving treatment?  Or does it really make people feel insecure?

Safe2Pee

http://safe2pee.org/beta/
This site is great.  It's a collection of gender neutral toilet location, where it is safe to pee, whether you be trans, androgynous or munchkin.  There are a lot of bathrooms added and you are free to add your own or scope out where be headed if you were ever to travel. The site itself in its welcome message says

The goal of the project is to create a resource where people who do not feel comfortable with traditional public restrooms can find safe alternatives, and to support advocacy and research to further the cause of gender free, inclusive bathrooms. The service aims to be accessible from a variety of mediums (computer, cell phone browser, maybe even a call-in number?)

This is a great initiative and I'd love to see their plans come into fruition.  The site looks great as well, with a tag cloud featuring the hot spots to pee.  For the moment it seems that San Francisco and Las Vegas are the places to pee!

heteroflexible transgender bending

http://blogs.creativeloafing.com/dailyloaf/2010/06/22/cl-sexcast-7-heteroflexible-transgender-bending/

Lian met Brittany back when Lian was still Gillian and Brittany was still mostly straight. When Lian told Brittany that she wanted to be a he, their relationship bloomed. Lian was already passing so successfully as male that gay men often hit on him, mistaking Lian for a boy who didn’t need to shave yet. And many of Lian’s masculine and gender bending attributes were what attracted Brittany to him. Now the two prepare to embark on new territory as Lian begins the physical transformation into a man with hormone therapy.

Listen as the couple explains to Ginger Ale and me all the things you secretly wanted to know about transgendered people and relationships but were too afraid to ask.

Genderqueer chat on YouTube

The self proclaimed gender pirate bloggers of YouTube, GenderQueer chat is awesome.  I mean I've seen some of the videos, not all of them, but from what I've seen it's a frank and honest discussion about exploring gender, queering it and experiencing and enjoying life in a post gender binary.  So if you're into ticking the other box, or have questions, curious or want to connect with other gender queer people then have a look and listen to what these people are saying.  You could even post something of your own.  Be respectful and enjoy this candid look at gender diversity.

'I was looking for a trans counter-culture'

http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/jun/16/transgender-journey-trans-counter-culture

After my gender issues complicated my relationships with 'straight-acting' gay men, I had to reconsider my identity - and the centrality of maleness within it. Gradually, I came to define as 'transgender'. I understood that transgender could include cross-dressers, transvestites, male-to-female (MtF) and female-to-male (FtM) transsexuals, and anyone else who considered themselves beyond the traditional gender binary. Having found a suitable term for myself, which allowed space for me to explore my gender, I wanted to find places where I could express myself and meet like-minded people.

Genderqueer / Trans

I was having a look around the interwebs and found this, an interesting post; Is genderqueer anti trans?  It's an interesting topic and you could write much more on it, but I don't think genderqueer is anti-trans.  If anything genderqueer is a safe space for anyone with gender questions, whether  or not that person decides to transition.  I don't think genderqueer discourages people from transitioning, but it does disable the binary in ways many trans people couldn't have imagined before genderqueer became a more popular (anti) gender tag.  Maybe it changes the idea of what people want to be, rather than just a binary processed heterosexual trans person, genderqueer seems to encourage a more liberal attitude on what sexualities trans people may have.
